Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has claimed that he is still not happy with the way his club last out in the race to sign Cesc Fabregas. Chelsea claimed the transfer of the Barcelona midfielder for £ 27 million and he straightaway made a huge impact for the team in the 3-1 victory over Burnley. The midfielder created two assists while also controlling the game from the middle of the park. He formed an excellent partnership with Nemanja Matic and this was highlighted by Jose Mourinho after the match.
Scholes has accepted that Fabregas will probably turn out to be a key player for Chelsea in the next five years. He regrets the fact that United were unable to sign him last summer. United were the first club in with a shout to sign Fabregas when the first noises emerged that the player was unhappy at the Camp Nou. This summer, United did not try much to sign the 27-year-old as they focused entirely on bringing in Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich. After the failure of this transfer, they are left with only the £ 29 million Ander Herrera in the middle of the park as the new face.
Scholes says that Fabregas’ signing is a no-brainer since the midfielder is well versed with the Premier League compared to Herrera who needs time to adjust.
“In the few weeks at the end of last season when I was part of Ryan Giggs’ coaching team at Manchester United, I was asked my opinion on whether the club should sign Cesc Fabregas or Toni Kroos this summer. I thought there was only one response to that difficult choice between two great players. I said United should sign them both. I do not know what happened to the Kroos and Fabregas deals over the summer,” said Scholes.
