Fabregas compares Olivier Giroud to Sergio Aguero
Former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has claimed that Olivier Giroud is very similar to Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero in terms of his mentality to approach late into the box. Fabregas was commenting after watching Giroud open the scoring in Chelsea's FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United last weekend. A goalless first half was set to be the norm of the game as both teams cancelled at each other, but Giroud came up with an opener in the 11th minute of stoppage time. Chelsea went on to win the game 3-1 and reach the finals where they will be taking on Arsenal.
Fabregas was a winner of the FA Cup twice in his time in English football. His first taste of success in the competition came in 2004-05 when he was with Arsenal. Later, Fabregas ended up as a runner-up with Chelsea in 2016-17 before going on to win the trophy a year later. Giroud, meanwhile, is much more successful at this competition with four titles already to his name. Giroud has been able to win the 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2018 finals.
The first three titles came with Arsenal while the last success was with Chelsea. The way he managed to score with a late run into the box reminded Fabregas about Aguero.Azpilicueta supplied the ball for this goal after making a run from centre back position.
“Oli is one of the best making these little runs to the first post to score goals. Aguero another one. Fantastic mentality,” said Fabregas on his Twitter account. BBC pundit Alan Shearer said that Chelsea fully deserved the victory.“Chelsea have dominated that half from start to finish. They are the team that has created chances and they have pressed high. Manchester United have not caused them one problem,” said Shearer in his post-match analysis.
