Cesc Fabregas believes Chelsea can still win silverware this season
Former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas feels the Blues still have the chance of extending the season on a high by lifting some silverware. The west London giants have endured a difficult period since the turn of the year and their performances on the road have been dismal with a couple of embarrassing defeats at Bournemouth and Manchester City.
Speaking to CNN Sport, Fabregas said that it is normal for any club to go through a tough run of form, although the club’s recent league defeats were surprising for him as well. He added that the Capital outfit still have the means to make a successful season and backed them to come up with some sort of silverware before the season concludes.
He said: “No, listen, these things happen. It’s a shame really because it’s difficult to experience 4-0 defeats, 6-0 defeats. Well, it does (surprise me) because I never experienced that at Chelsea in my five years. This is a good team, though, and I believe in them. I’m sure they can still win titles this year. 100 per cent I believe that, so they just need to put things together because now is the right time to do it.
“Nothing is lost. They can still fight for many things and we have to make sure that“ we don’t regret it at the end.”
At the moment, Chelsea have only the League Cup and Europa League to contest for and they are scheduled to face Manchester City in the final of the former competition. The Blues were embarrassed during the recent league meeting between the teams where the Citizens celebrated a comfortable 6-0 triumph but the forthcoming final should be a lot closer, “given Maurizio Sarri may“ go with a defensive-minded formation from the start.
Sarri has been criticised over the past few months over the reluctance to change the tactics based on a particular game but another heavy defeat against the Citizens may put him on the brink of being sacked from the head coach role.
