Diego Costa has come under a lot of criticism
Diego Costa has come under a lot of criticism following his actions against Arsenal in the recent 2-0 win for Chelsea.
Replays showed that Costa was heavily involved in getting Arsenal defender Gabriel sent off with a straight red card. The former Atletico Madrid striker, however, was himself captured on television putting his hands on defender Laurent Koscielny. This has earned him an FA charge and almost a certain retrospective ban for a few games. On the day, however, Chelsea came out on top largely because of the role by Costa. It was only after Arsenal were reduced to 10 men that the blues started having a huge influence on the game.
Midfielder Cesc Fabregas has assisted Costa in a number of goals since the duo came to Chelsea last summer. Fabregas and Costa were once again involved in the midweek against Maccabi Tel Aviv with the latter scoring a wonderful goal that was created by the Spaniard. Fabregas has defended his teammate by stating that the aggression shown by Costa is a wonderful asset to have in the team. He has also been backed by the huge support given to Costa by the Chelsea supporters, who have been singing his name ever since he stormed to the Premier League.
“He’s very competitive, it’s good, he’s hungry for success and to win all the time. You can see the fans love him as well, they get behind him all the time so it’s great for us.I’m happy for the victory, that’s the main thing. We were on a bad run and now we are playing better, confidence is higher, we don’t want to stop here.We went into a bad run, every team has one in a season and hopefully we’ve had ours. We’ve taken off and we hope this is just the beginning of what will be a big season for us,” said Fabregas.
