AWAY GOALS
Paris St Germain were recently knocked out of the Champions League by Barcelona on away goals after a 3-3 aggregate score between the two clubs in the quarter finals.
PSG were one of the teams that came extremely close to knocking the Spanish club out of the competition. They were leading 3-2 on aggregate until the 70th minute mark before Barcelona managed to equalise the match. PSG manager Carlo Ancelotti has said that the team should now be focusing on the league campaign and completely forgetting the match against Barcelona.
Ancelotti said after the first leg that it was extremely cruel that PSG were made to concede a penalty late in the match, which ultimately proved to be the difference between the two teams. The former Chelsea manager has said that this is his first full season at the club, and he is extremely happy to have made it into the quarter finals of the Champions League. Now, he says that the priority of the team will be winning the league title. PSG are currently top of the French league, while they have managed to extend the gap to a massive seven points in recent weeks.
Second placed Marseille are seven points behind PSG having played the same 31 games.
"My players played a good match against Barcelona. We posed Barça - a fantastic team - a lot of problems. It's my first full season here and I'm very pleased with what my side has shown in the Champions League. They've shown a strong team spirit and a strong identity, especially against Barcelona. But it's not just my project, it's the work of an entire club that wants to grow. We were competitive, and naturally we should be even better next season," said Ancelotti after the match. This would be the first major title for PSG after a long gap.
