Arsenal legend backs Chelsea to challenge for the Premier League title
Arsenal legend-turned-pundit Ian Wright believes Chelsea will be right in the mix for the Premier League crown during the backend of the campaign. The Blues endured a tough 2017/18 campaign where they only finished fifth in the standings and this witnessed the departure of manager Antonio Conte.
Since then, Maurizio Sarri has taken over the heat seat at Stamford Bridge and Wright has been impressed with how the Blues have quickly adjusted to the manager’s tactics, he said: “Abramovich looks to have pulled another rabbit out of the hat in appointing Maurizio Sarri. The way Chelsea have started the season under the Italian has only confirmed my belief that they will be in the mix this time. They will clearly do it the way Abramovich loves too — with entertaining, exciting football which will always put backsides on seats.”
The Blues experienced a rather uneasy transfer window where they made just one high-profile signing in Jorginho until the start of August but they managed to make amends before the deadline with Mateo Kovacic and Kepa Arrizabalaga adding a sense of fresh impetus into the squad. As such, they have managed to build up momentum since the Premier League season has begun and they are presently holding the perfect tally of nine points after beating Huddersfield Town, Arsenal, and Newcastle United in their first three matches.
Despite the positives, the Blues have had some concerns over the defensive side of the game which was exploited during the London derby versus Arsenal, and Sarri may need to find a solution at the earliest possibility with bigger challenges ahead.: The Blues are scheduled to face Bournemouth in their next league game at Stamford Bridge and the match offers them the perfect opportunity to avenge their shock 3-0 defeat at the same stadium last term.
